I’m back!

general, Travel, Uncategorized
I'm back!  My family and I went on a week long vacation.  We had a blast and I hoped I would have access to my blog but our mini laptop wasn't working for most of the trip especially using the blog wordpress software.  Thanks to technology I was able to check my email from my phone, but that was about it.  I hoped to write this sooner but when I got home yesterday my laptop had some issues too.  Got to love technology! I have a lot of posts I look forward to write about my family adventure.   I'm back at work this week so I will have to do that obligation first so please be patient as I get back on track. A couple posts I hope to…

How do you calculate your grocery or drugstore savings?

Financial, general, Uncategorized
I'm curious, how do you calculate your grocery or drugstore savings? Do you calculate it based on regular retail prices? Do you calculate it based on sale prices? How do you calculate it using your reward points /bucks/ rewards? I've been trying to figure this out for a while.  We save a lot each year on so many things!  We don't ever buy toothpaste, razors, and other household products just because I can get it FREE or really cheap.   I know I'm saving a lot because of that but how much am I really saving per trip? What formula do you use?  I plan to find a couple formulas and post them here. Source Img:  All You magazine

Happy New Year! and Donations!

Charity, Financial, general, Uncategorized
Happy New Year!  I'm so excited even though the weather today isn't the prettiest it sure is nice to to be home and rest with the family.   Plus we are going to make my version of the Starbucks Ginger Bread Latte!  Cheers! I just wanted to send a quick reminder to everyone that it is Dec 31st, which means you should complete any 2009 donations today!   There are so many charities that need help and even it is a, $1 or $5 it is so appreciated by those that don't have much.   Plus, most charities are tax-deductible which can help with 2009 taxes.  Giving is worth it! Happy New Year! Img Source:  Justin Newitter

Merry Christmas!

Financial, general, Uncategorized
From my family to yours - Merry Christmas, and see you in the New Year! I will continue to do the best I can and post any interesting deals as I find them.  I will be taking a break like most bloggers and enjoying the holiday season, but when I find interesting tidbits to share I will do the  best I can. A couple reminders!   This coming weekend will have the P&G insert-December 27 - so don't forget to get your local paper. Keep an eye out for some great deals on December 26 for next year's Christmas season like candles, wrapping paper, cards and ribbon.  Remember to create a budget and stick to it. That reminds me!   It is time to start thinking about financial goals for 2010.   What…

How to make Liquid Foaming Hand Wash?

DIY, general, Recipes, Uncategorized
I'm a huge fan of Dial complete and other liquid foaming hand wash.  For several years I would buy the refills at Walmart.  Now, I look for good deals everywhere I go.   I've tried in the past to make my own but it would come out foaming for a day and then it would stop working.   The best deal I've found to buy it at Aldi I believe it is under $2 last time I was there. Then here is the recipe for refilling your container! 1. Find some gel like liquid soap.  I recommend gel form because it needs to dissolve.  The creme version will not dissolve and the pump will not be able to foam it.  You can get the gel form really cheap!  You could even try…

I was thinking this morning about a general stockpiling list.  I ask myself what items I should look out for on sale?   What else do you suggest adding to the list? This list doesn't include groceries.  Will start creating that list next.  Let me know what to add to that list too. Household products Trash Bags Toilet Paper Paper Towels Napkins Dishwashing Detergent Dishwashing Liquid Sponges Detergent Vinegar Medicines Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Cold Medicines Allergy Medicines Bandages Cough Drops Saline Solution Contact Solution Eye Drops Dental Toothpaste Floss Mouthwash (Listerine) Denture Tabs (retainer cleaner) Toothbrushes Feminine Products Tampons Pads Baby Products Diapers Wipes Creams Personal Care Razors Shaving Foam Shampoo Conditioner Soap Hand Soap Hair Color Lip Gloss Make-up SPF 15/30

Here is how to save during the Open Season Work Benefits 2009

general, Health, Uncategorized
[caption id="attachment_1585" align="aligncenter" width="342" caption="Copyright Holly's Savings"][/caption] It's that time of year again!  Most companies are starting their open season for work benefits.   I'm writing this to remind everyone that this is very important.  If you have your own separate policies that is probably one of the best moves you can make.  You might be spending more in some areas but you have a contract directly with the insurance company that you can take with you.  When you work for a company and leave that company you lose those benefits.  It is important if you don't have your own policies you take this open season very seriously. This is where you can save a lot of money during the year.  Let me explain why. (more…)

Anniversary, Sewing Expo and other things

general, Uncategorized
This week is a busy week for me.  My daughter was diagnosed with a double ear infection.  She is feeling a lot better. Good news is, it's the Sewing Expo this week!  Woohoo!   Yesterday, I learned about the serger and how to create some beautiful stitches with it.  I also learned about fusible web.  I've worked with fusible stabalizers but haven't tried the fusible web before.  It is great because it doesn't melt as quickly as other brands do. Plus, this weekend is my anniversary weekend! 7 years ago I married the most wonderful gentleman in the world.  I'm so blessed to have him in my life,  he loves, cares, and supports me and our little girl.  I love him always and forever. Besides, he uses coupons when going shopping!  …
