For Virginia:

Sales of the following items are exempt from sales or use tax during the sales tax
holiday period:
• Each article of clothing or footwear with a selling price of $100 or less per article;
and
• Each school supply item with a selling price of $20 or less per item.

For those that don’t have kids or have little tots, this holiday is a great time to buy items like underwear, socks, t-shirts, and sneakers.  It is also a good time to buy craft supplies for the younger kids like paint, paper, and markers.  Start thinking about Christmas gifts! The best part I found out is diapers, baby items and even wedding dresses ($100 or less) are included!! See list below.

Here are questions that I thought are super helpful when planning for that weekend.  This comes from the Virginia website FAQs:

What items are included under school supplies?

Virginia defines school supplies as items that are commonly used by a student in a course of study. The following is a list of items that are included in the term “school supplies” and are therefore exempt from tax during the sales tax holiday period if their sales price is $20 or less per item. The list is effective for the 2010 holiday and is all-inclusive.

Clothing does not include sporting equipment or footwear designed primarily for athletic activity or protective use and not usually considered appropriate for everyday wear. The following is a list of items that are included in the term “clothing” and are therefore exempt from tax during the sales tax holiday period if their sales price is $100 or less per item. I didn’t have any ECBs left since I bought so many diapers and baby products that were 75% off so I actually spent some money.  I spent $16.86 and I got back $17 in ECBs!  That made my trip a profit of $.14! Not bad.

The reason I bought new born diapers is actually for my daughter to play with them.  My daughter recently turned 2 and is in love with her new baby doll that Grammy bought her so she wants to put her big size 6 diapers on the baby doll and explains to my husband and I what the baby doll does in the diaper.   I’m thinking this might help her understand that she doesn’t need diapers anymore.  We will see.  She did go potty once this weekend!

Catching up on all of my shopping trips in the last couple of weeks.

My shopping trip at CVS on 5/9/10.  I did very well.   I used about $25 worth of ECBs.  I used a gift card and spent $16.35 and got back $20.99 in ECBs for $91.67 retail value merchandise.  I saved 82% from retail amount + have over $20 ECBs to use on my next trip.

I bought the following:

• 4 Carefree pads $1.00 each – Used 4 – $1/1 coupons 4/25 SS = FREE
• 2 Stayfree pads $Stayfree pads $3.69 each – Used 2 – $1/1 coupons 4/25 SS and $4 CVS coupon = $1.38 got back $4 ECBs because I purchased 4 Carefree/Stayfree products.  This was a surprise.
• Claritin D 24 hour 10 count $12.99 – Used $2/1 coupon 5/2 SS = $10.99  I was hoping this was part of the Claritin deal but it wasn’t.

Yesterday, I went to RiteAid and did the diaper deal that I mentioned.    I didn’t have any of the wipes coupons so I instead just bought diapers.   I didn’t take a picture because I put them away before I got my act together and took my pictures.

Today, I asked my hubby if I could run into RiteAid since it dawned on me that the wipes are on sale $2/$5 and I have these high value coupons just sitting there.   I spent $6.38 for 9 packages of wipes that is $.71 a piece.  Not bad at all!

• 6 Huggies Wipes 2/$5 or 42.50 each – Used 3 – Huggies IP coupons $2/2 = $1.50 each

I wanted to share some of the deals I grabbed at Walmart today.

• Bic pens for FREE,
• 2 Nivea body washes for FREE $3.97 and used the $4/1 coupon,
• M&Ms bags for $1.67 a piece after using a B2G1 coupon from 5/2 RP, and
• 2 Cetaphil products after using my $2 off any product IP coupons.   The Cetaphil products even came with 2 more $2 coupons exp in 2011.  The moisturizer SPF15 $8.97 – $2 = $6.97 and the SPF 50 $12.97 – $2 = $10.97.
• 1 Sidewalk caulk for $1 – Finding creative cheap ways to play outside.

It’s been a while since I updated my Cost of Diapers for the year and I realized that this past month I didn’t buy that many diapers again.  I used the $3 Huggies IP coupon once or twice — I believe I found all of my receipts.

So far I’ve saved $142.09!

After my second trip, I helped someone else get this deal at the store.

When I was trying to decide how many I wanted a lady walked by me and I immediately asked her if I was in her way, and she was so kind. ” Oh no you’re fine! Wow, makeup is so expensive now a days”, she said as she looked at the prices on the display.

I nodded and mentioned in passing, coupons really do help.  She nodded in agreement, it sure does.

I went back to my cart and picked out the mascaras that I wanted there were so many too choose from it was so exciting! I then found only one Desitin.  I should have gotten a rain check but the Rite Aid coupon would then expire so I didn’t ask, I was nervous about this big purchase of mascara.  Then I picked up the Cadbury eggs as a treat for Easter. The purchase came out to $.12!  I was thrilled.

I immediately turned around and looked for the lady that mentioned the cost of make-up and I told her here are a couple of the B1G1 coupons and get some of the mascara for FREE because the mascara is B1G1 plus a $3 off $15 coupon.

She said, “Wow you’re so sweet, what an angel, I’ll go right now. My sister does this but I always forget my coupons.”

I told her I carry them with me, and pointed to my Couponizer.

I left the store happy with my purchase and glad I passed the savings on.

Then I had some friends over and gave my girlfriend one of mascaras.

Check out this purchase and note I also have soda in the picture, i.e. from my Safeway deal on Friday.  Buy 2 Pepsi 12 oz cans get 3 FREE!  They cost $4.99 each. That makes it $.16 a can!
