Over the next 10 years, the USGS plans to conduct a new assessment of water availability and use. This national Water Census will address critical aspects of recent Federal legislation, including the need to establish a national water assessment program. Peace Service to Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Dranesville

Dec 18, Dranesville Church of the Brethren Address: 11500 Leesburg Pike, Herndon, VA
Times: 7pm
Phone: (703) 430-7872
Admission: FREE
Dranesville Church of the Brethren will conduct a special candlelight peace service on Dec. 18, the Sunday closest to Dec. 20, at 7pm to commemorate the loss of life in the Battle of Dranesville.  At the beginning of the service candles are burning for each soldier that lost their life in the battle.  As each deceased soldier’s name is read aloud the candle is put out to honor their sacrifice.  The event is free and open to the public. Ironically, this one-time battleground is now occupied by a parking lot for Dranesville Church of the Brethren, a pacifist congregation descended from The Church of the Brethren that started in Germany in 1708.  The church’s roots are in the Reformation tradition that believed in adult baptism. Because Brethren immersed believers three times in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, they were given the name “Dunkers.”
